Funny you should mention that. There's a city to the east of me called "Marlborough". It is bordered by "Northborough", "Westborough", and "Southborough". On one major highway you cross the border from Northborough into Westborough as you are going east.

It has to do with a odd shaped border. It doesn't run in a perfectly straight line. Generally speaking, those town's names are accurate according to their positions around each other.

Out here, County roads are simple, once you figure out the system.

Most all county roads are numbered, with a N, S, E, W  designation, pegged to the center of the county.....Example, "CR 500-W" means 5 miles West of the center of the county.

A lotta states I been to have crazy ways to number their country roads...Like Wisconsin, for instance.  There, they just give the road a 'letter', like Co. Road 'J'.....When the run out of letters, they just double up...like 'AA', 'BB' 'SS' and what not.  They're scattered all over, no reason to any of it.

Around here there is absolutely no rhyme or reason for any of it. We simply have interstates like "I-90, I-84, and I-95" just to name a few. Then we have state roads like "MA 62" and "MA 146"

I-90 is crowded as fuck here too, only it's worse from the Worcester-Boston stretch. The western half of it isn't bad.  I-495 is another real bitch of a highway. Always construction going on, always a fuck ton of traffic.
