That is why most game devs rush shit out after they make a press release talking about what they are doing because the public demand become so great they get pressured to release it asap or they fear they will lose the popularity.

I could care less about that stuff since good things come to those who wait. If it takes a while then so be it. If people don't like that then they should move on to something else and the people that do care will still be around.

When I get it done.

I am trying to get the textures done so I can release that portion around xmas...but I can't promise that I will be able to release them then tho...since you have to realize...I am the ONLY one working on this and there are several thousand textures in this game....its a lot to change since I am replacing every single one. Plus putting in my full hd replacements for the characters in the game....hd vehicle replacements.....beta boys dorm will be reconstructed.....

I will not say any specific date and I will also please ask that everyone be patient with me as I do this mod. Anyone posting begging for me to release it now or release it early will just have their posts deleted since hammering me will just force me to slow down more or stop the mod totally. Patience is something I do want to teach a lot of the newer crowd here.

Modding Questions/Help Archives / Re: canĀ“t import nif file to 3ds max
« on: November 05, 2014, 02:02:01 PM »
I have not had a chance yet to work on the file you sent me to look at.

It seems like the normal maps are not correct based on what I did see but I myself don't use a plugin for 3ds max to edit things like this....I just export the model .obj and just edit it that way and make a brand new texture after I do my edits. My method is somewhat different then what others here likely do.

But then, I never was able to get any .nif plugin for 3ds max to ever work on my end regardless what version of 3ds I bother using (have every version...rofl) or settings that are used. So in effect I basicly created my own technique while...a little harder...works quite well for me.

SWEGTA here has used the plugin and likely has had better luck then most people that have used it. MadHattrick also uses the plugin if memory serves here...and also can do quite a lot with all of this.

Sry I am late to the party but ah well.....I am usually too busy to catch up anyways...rofl.

What are all the white structures on the upper left of the main world map, between the school and Blue Skies ?  Are they to represent mountains ?
The building with the 3 smokestacks should be Gloop Oil, to the left of it should be the round Chem-O-Lot plant.
I take it the separate part at top left is the Asylum, and the separate one at top right is maybe the Go-Cart track...(?)
But what is the separate one at the top middle represent ?

The Basement & Girl's Dome interiors look absolutely awesome.
One render, (the ground floor hallway, the first interior of the Girls Dorm), would be perfect for an NES render of Tony saving Karen a second before the bomb blast in Chapter 1.  I have ideas for others (1 per chapter) that I will PM you about.  One will be in front of the school, and one behind (both looking towards the school), but both occurred at night (not total darkness), and one is with a snowstorm.

The white areas are the hills, rock formations, grassy areas. They are white because I am missing those specific textures and just never added them in yet.

The interiors most certainly DON'T match the exterior buildings they are part of so I have no simple way of combining one without redoing the other. I will try this however and see what happens.

This is a example of what I mean.

I removed the school exterior building and placed the interiors structure where the school building was....keep in mind that this is exactly to scale too and this shows that there is no possible way for these interiors with their layout to fit in that building. Just is not possible.

I was trained in school as a architect and have a degree for this....and I know this area VERY well.

Here is a overhead shot showing both the school building in its normal position and the interiors placed behind it. Notice the differences in the shape and size?

Well, it's not like we're friends, so lying to you could be justified

I am going to ask that both of you to PLEASE not argue here or try to start a flame war. If you must argue...then maybe it would be best to do so AWAY from BB since I do also have a job here of trying to keep the peace. Other then AJ I am currently the only active admin who can be here every day and I really don't want to have to spend all of my time diffusing arguments that are plain silly. They never solve anything and just create even more tension between the two or more people involved in arguing...and eventually spreads over to everyone else.

Just asking nicely here.  :blank:

The modding community seems to be dying, now

But.. but you said to me yesterday, that it was already dead!  How could you lie  to me like that?

liar

I meant that it is already dying, and you can't deny that it is

You are quite negative aren't ya?

Bully modding is not 'dying' nor has it 'already been dying'. You have to look at things in a different way: A community is not unlike a family. Families have their ups and downs at times and game modding is no exception. Now...yes there ARE several modding communities that are 'dying' or already 'dead' but thing is, you have to understand that the bully community was always a small one when compared to the other communities out there.

We have gotten larger in the time I have been here, but its been slow. Things like that never happen overnight and if you do think that....then you  might want to have another look at the larger picture...rofl.

Bully has what is called "cult game status" due to it's age and the fact there is a core die-hard following. So in all actuality, our community is not exactly dying.

Now, if we were originally the size of the gta community...then yeah, I would state at that stage it was dying and nearly dead.

I don't want to sound big headed or anything, but I have been around gaming and game modding communities longer then probably everyone on this forum with the exception of possibly Chuck, and I can state that I know the signs when a community starts actually dying.

Most of our audience atm is kids and late teens due to the subject matter of the game, which is centered around the school life and centers around bullying or not bullying in school in order to complete your objectives. Not a huge amount of adults would really be into this style game and there is also the fact that most kids in today's generation have rather short attention spans when it comes to games. Most are already ready for the next greatest most uber game ever to hit the market and once that happens...most usually just drop whatever game they are playing now and play that, never to play the older game again except occasionally when very bored. Most have this throw it away mentality on games if the game is older then a year....it is considered a dinosaur and should be avoided for the next uber game with uber fantastic graphics...rofl.

I am a old school gamer and as such, I tend to play a single game for many many years before I actually get bored with it. Hell, I was still playing AND still modding the original Doom and Doom II up until about a year before the fire took my home about.....4 years ago I think it was now....time kinda flies anymore....as that was the very first game I really truely modded. I also had created quite a lot of modding tools FOR that game and was among the forerunners of the great modders that really started the whole game modding craze back then.

So in retrospect, I know quite a lot more about this and trust me....the community here is NOT dying nor will it be anytime soon. It just has its slow periods and then starts getting more attention....then slows down again. This is the same for many things in life and I will impart a little advice to ya that you may want to take seriously and not just think that I am some long winded bullshitter that acts like he knows everything (no-one does)..... A person that honestly believes that they are going to die tomorrow will find some way to make it happen, even unconciously. A person that honestly believes that they are going to be successful tomorrow will find some way to make it happen.

If you honestly believe that the community here is dying and/or dead, then it will always be that in YOUR eyes and nothing will ever change it. If you honestly believe taht the community here is still alive and just going a little slow, then that is how it will be and eventually things DO get better.

I know that you know next to nothing about me, but everyone here that knows me well will tell you that I NEVER give up on anything. Sure I MIGHT talk about it now and then but in the end, I never do. This community is the same for me since while yes...there were several 'modders' that came before me...before lua...before really anything was known about the game files....back when things were secretly traded on youtube channels, at the same time...when I came here I basicly took charge of everything due to my own past experience with several communities....the gta community being one of them as I was among the first modders for vice city AND san andreas, I for the most part created the modding community that exists today for Bully. Many people here will back this up too.

To me....this community is NOT about the modding...but it is actually about the solid friendships we all have made here. The modding is just an added bonus and if you don't agree with anything I have said...then that is simply your own honest opinion and your right to say or believe in.

All I do anymore is just try to set a positive example for everyone here to follow and maybe even be considered something of a role model to some of the younger group to show just what can be achieved through hard work and determination.  8)

The modding community seems to be dying, now

It isn't dying...never will really unless people forget about bully entirely.

As long as I am here...there will always be activity and new things. If you check the mega-mod status thread...you will see a massive mod I am working on along with plenty of eye candy to look at.

And I know exactly why. People have taken to believe that what they're doing is so far superior to what others are doing.

I noticed that when newbies start modding in LUA, Some people say "Nice Job, Keep on moving forwards in modding, we'll help you" - Which is what I want to see. What I don't want to see is the select few people who say "This is Good, but I have a mod, slightly better called 'x' Mod, it allows you to do so and so. Maybe one day you'll get the hang of it and be able to do what I've done today" - Or something along those lines.

While I Respect everybody's opinion, you should just leave a "Well Done" or a "Nice Mod, Keep going". Just to give them a bit of encouragement. Maybe then everybody would respect each other, and we'd have a much larger, and nicer community.

I don't want this community to die, just because a few people have criticized other's mods or opinions and beliefs. Please use that amazing brain to think of nice things to say, not mods all the time. Everyone here has a good statement to make. We're all not perfect, we're all not great, but can we at least try? I'm sure I speak for all of us when I say I want this to be a nice community. I want this to be a place, that when we're under stress in real life, we can come and talk about it, and the move forwards with thinking about mods and others.

Please..

This is the point I have been trying to drive home this whole time. Bout time someone else mentions this other then me all the time...rofl.

Modding is NEVER about competing over who is the best...who has the best mod...which mod is the best ever...who has more skills...etc. Modding should simply be a fun community effort by US the gamers to customize the game how WE want it to look/feel/play like and allow others to enjoy our efforts.

In regards to the whole criticism thing, I also have noticed some people ragging on other's mods/work and really....harsh criticism is never a good thing and will just royally piss off the modder that recieved that from whomever said it. Those however that can't take CONSTRUCTIVE criticism really need to step back, take a deep breath and just relax a little...maybe even walk away from things for a short while and then come back to it with a renewed look at things and renewed energy.

Modding is not a job nor will it ever be. Not unless we all form a actual company where we PAY our modders money to create the mods...etc....then they sell the mods and share with us the profits..and really, that is just messed up. Making money off of mods is something I never want to see happen here because thats just taking advantage of others and showing greed. This is kinda done in other game modding communities where the 1337 of the 1337 think they are so god like that they can charge money for the work they do when really, they are just showing their greed.

Here are some updates.....what you are about to see is everything loaded in 3ds max itself...using 3ds max 2014 for those interested and none of these shots show modded textures...not yet anyways.

I am reconstructing EVERYTHING in 3ds max as one whole world..including interiors and this is proving to be a healthy challenge. I am surprised no-one has attempted this yet. Got this feeling I am the first for this one...rofl.

All of this will be released at some point before xmas for others to use to develop their own textures to import into the game. This as I said above is the main reason why I am doing this, but I am also doing this for the zombie story renders and btw Chuck....I can use this to do renders for the NES for you as well if you want. Once I have freetime that is.

Now...on to the progress screenshots for everyone:

Here is the current stage of the full world map...it is pretty big and sorta a strain for me to work with due to all the tiny 'pieces' as everything was manually imported and positioned as close as I could remember. Been a while since I played the game so feel free to let me know if I have placements wrong on anything. I do NOT have everything put in just yet...but almost.

Next up is a shot of the school interiors from the outside. I have almost everything placed as far as rooms go...the only things missing in this shot is the auditorium since I have to modify that to remove the control booth from the mesh..as it interferes with the school walls....add in the basement fully which ....needs modifications to line up proper and not interfere with the rooms and walls....and finish adding missing classrooms...

I am also adding in the nurses office too as the beta had that but they removed it. easy enough to do since I can just use a generic classroom model as the base and go from there.

The shot above is not in 3ds max btw..but using a custom version of poser which is what I use for posing my custom characters in my scenes...which I then export to use either with renderman studio or lux...whatever I feel in the mood for using at the time.

next up is a shot showing part of the school interior...namely part of the lobby and the school store. I do not have the props added in yet nor do I have doors added in since those are seperate models with animations...kinda a pain to export correctly for use here.

Here is another shot inside the lobby

Next up is the full basement. Still missing a few minor details and missing a part of one room that I somehow forgot...but I will fix that soon.

Next up is the girls dorm:

Here is the exterior shot of the interior itself....

Now for the inside of it...I do not have the props added in yet but a lot of this I am planning to redo in ultra high definition....however I have no idea if the game will be able to handle the type of modeling that I do so....this is a nice challenge for me.

I will post more either tonight or tomorrow. I have been working as fast as I can to shave time off of this project. So please pardon any strange looking errors in any of the screenshots.

I unlocked this topic so others can leave their thoughts here.

I want everyone to at least consider what has been talked about in this topic so far and leave their thoughts and see if we all can use this to our advantage and move on in a better way from this little hurdle.

TUTORIALS / Re: How to add Blips
« on: October 25, 2014, 08:11:12 PM »
I did not add every single blip. The reason for that is my notes are a mess and I couldn't find the main listing I made way back when so I used what I was able to remember off the top of my head.

Feel free to add to this topic and even expand it with what you know since it will help everyone more in the end.  8)

Right now, It doesn't really matter WHO found WHAT first middle or last. Yes Rise found the code at about the same time...however Rise was the first one to figure out exactly how it worked. he then showed me how it worked...etc and not long after that the demo for the player swap mod was released.

DaBOSS then located the function by looking in the demo and later looking thru the disassembled sources for the bully.exe and after a while he figured out how it was used too. While he did use a method that did irritate me a little bit.....to find the function....the function however is not much to go off of unless you either have good lua experience or know how the function code structure is for that particular function and then can figure it out easily enough.

@Mick

I do know that you have disagreed a lot in the past with the methods Rise, I and some others have employed about NOT sharing certain codes with the general public. There is a VERY good reason for all of this. 3 years of hard work went into the PSMM and finding out the code for swapping player models and we noticed a disturbing trend happening here on BB. A LOT of members just simply begging for ALL of the answers to be just handed over to them just like that basicly....we are doing ALL of the hard work and NOT charging a single bit for it, while someone else EXPECTS us to DO all of the work and just hand them the results just like that every single time.

I DO NOT want anyone to ever publicly reveal this code nor do I ever want anyone to publicly reveal any code dealing with manually getting the fighting styles working. I actually want the community to WORK TOGETHER as a friendly unit and discover all of those bits on their own and actually learn something in the process instead of always expecting every single answer to be just handed over like that.

I know this may seem out of character for me....since I am all about sharing code...ideas...projects...etc, but this specific subject is a bad subject for BB and causes way too many conflicts due to how bad people want this bit of code.

Even though the PSMM is cancelled ....I will still stop anyone in their tracks that tries to publicly reveal those bits of information since it will just cause our little community to fall apart and I really do NOT want to see all of my hard work...plus the hard work of the others to be all for nothing in trying to teach the community the value of real teamwork and learning about things rather then just taking the easy route all of the time.

From this point forward...I am enacting a forum wide rule to please NOT discuss the subject of the player code swap unless its a team effort by people to FIND out how this code works on their own and plan on the forum how to go about it. Anyone here that does know this code is asked to please NOT reveal anything about it to anyone and let others find it on their own....once someone finds it on their own they will learn the simple value of doing something on their own or maybe learning how to work with another person instead of all of this senseless conflict.

I and the rest of the staff will from this point forward be basicly handing out some pretty harsh punishments to those that try to cause conflict here about this particular subject.

I am unlocking this topic and I want everyone to THINK carefully before they post in here because I already have warned everyone here about how sensitive this topic even is.

I really don't want to step out of character and turn into a nazi admin here on people that I like a lot and care about. We all are what makes this community a fun place to be and I want to keep it fun....not have constant war zones pop up here due to this or that subject.
