Yeah, even when shes 'not' there at the desk she can still be heard making announcements over the PA system! the only other place for her to make them from is Crabblesnitches office!

Regarding whether Derby would ever side with Gary.

Being the die hard Bully geek I am, I was listening to student quotes, and I came across Bucky's. One of his lines is "I saw Darby and Gary talking about something, and when I walked by they told me to shut up!". He sounds oddly excited about it, too.

Bryce too mentions Gary a few times.

"I heard Gary has a new flunky, some kid named Jerry or Jimmy or Jesse or something."

"This Jimmy guy trying to get in good with us? Gary says his dad is that bum that begs all the time!"

"That despicable Jimmy's back on his terror campaign against preps. Gary was right, he is jealous of our breeding."

Looks like he's on friendly terms with a few preps. Could that be the reason why Greasers attack him on sight?

Also Pedro has two interesting quotes.
"I've heard that Jimmy's taken care of Gary! That's why we never see him."
"I heard Gary's going to come back and save us all!"

Does that mean that Gary's expulsion was meant to be kept a secret? And the 2nd quote doesn't make Jimmy's 'reign' sound pleasant at all.

She probably did the announcement from Crabblesnitch's office before getting back to whatever it is they were doing.
