I think the eggs are more for the annoyance / distraction factor rather than the damage factor.  Hit someone with an egg and they'll spend a moment wiping it off rather than throwing punches.

Yes, there are other things that do the different jobs far better, but the egg is (I believe) the only projectile that works both as distraction and damage.

You're forgetting spray paint which also serves as distraction while doing much more damage than eggs.

Course it's not a 'projectile', but then again neither is eggs since they have to be thrown and aren't shot from anything.

Sorry for the bump, but for me, the eggs are one of the most useful weapons ever, and I use almost all of them everyday. For what, you ask?

They allow you to beat up little kids and girls without a full trouble meter.

Throw one at them and immediately start beating them.

No, you'll still get the orange trouble meter from hitting them with a egg, but if you immediately start beating them, the game won't register the red meter violation and you'll only get the orange. But you have to be quick. This also works with throwing books, dead rats, balls, and any throwable weapon that doesn't cause a red violation.
