Wait, it's not 19 in New York. It's 18.

And I agree Mike! Good rant.

And 21 for New York here.

You could get your license whenever you turned 16, but NY just recently passed a law saying that you have to be at least 16 and 6 months. Luckily, I don't have to worry anymore.

In Massachusetss they are real nazis when it comes to....well, anything.  In order to drive you must: be at least 16 to get a permit.  To get a license you have to be at least 16.5 years old and have held a permit for at least 6 months, and if you are under 18 you must have 40 hours behind the wheel experience and I foget how much in class time in driver's ed.

You have to be 18 to buy cigarettes here, not 19.

in Texas they recently passed a law that you have to have your permit for a year before you get your lisence, but I don't have to worry about that either.

But my gymnastics coach says the the age limits for drinking and smoking is based off of science, like you're body's ability to handle it. I'm not sure if that's true, but it sounds right.

what I don't get is why you can fight and die for your country at 18 but you drink beer.

^ Haha, I like the way you think! (I'm referring to Dylan's post) I actually have the same thoughts exactly.  I'm 19, so I can legally do anything except drink.  I have a driver's license, I'm registered to vote, and I am registered in the draft (as if I had a choice).  Even though I'm not legally allowed to drink, sometimes the rules are meant to be broken....but I'll never tell....;)

Once upon a time 18 was the drinking age. It was DECADES ago. Through the 50s, 60s, even 70s. But eventually things had to get fucked up like usual.

I think there should be one age where the government stops making choices for you, either 18 or 21, it does not matter, but it shouldn't matter if it is bad for you, if you're an adult you should get to choose if you want to to drink or not, even if it might be harmfull.

My view?  If I'm old enough to vote in the assholes that make these dumb laws, I'm old enough to have a drink afterwards.

Those assholes promise a lot but do little. Obama promised a lot. None of it got done. The day he came into office he was taking "swift action" on the economy. After voting for this and seeing no results, its more like you NEED a drink. They should serve drinks at the polls.
