When I was a kid, I had one of those big Chem sets. (This was before I discovered I hated Chemistry).  I mixed all sorts of shit together, but never blew anything up.  So, I sorta lost interest.

I didn't blow anything up. I just mixed something or another that screwed with plastic. See, the set came with safe 'chemicals' but I got bored with the book's recipes and tried mixing my own.

I was actually told I was lucky I didn't inhale chlorine or something.

Or make mustard gas by accident....I think kids have actually done that by accident, like in Joe Dirt!

I make various firecrackers and IEDs in my chem labs, including dry ice bomb, flashbang, nail bomb, shaped charge(one of the funniest), and Jenkem.

Somehow I get the feeling that Jenkemator's Chem sets are just a teeny bit different form ours......

I also make non-explosive weapons like blowgun, hammer, stone knife, battery-acid filled squirt gun, slingshot, and many things.
