Bully Modding / An Interesting Idea
« on: February 16, 2022, 02:25:12 PM »
I was just thinking... Lua has interactive mode, which is like a command line mode you can type stuff in. I think it's hard codded in the lua binary, so there is a good chance this thing exists in bully.exe

Would it be possible enter this mode in any way?

I believe this could really make modding this game move forward...
Think about it like the console on goldsrc/source based games :)

Mod Showroom / Bully RTX experiment
« on: July 06, 2021, 07:00:27 PM »
First of all, the shader used to simulate RTX is RTGI, made for reshade.

I have been trying to get RTX on Bully using reshade. For it to work, anti aliasing, vsync and shadows must be disabled on video settings. I have to say dough, I am unsatisfied with the result... Some areas will get really dark, while other get incredibly light and shiny. I'm not a fan of that.

Here are some examples. Note that I also used some other visual effects on reshade such as HDR.

There is also a strange bug that will make some minigames (biology class was tested) semi transparent, allowing to see jimmy as a shadow in the background:

I have also tried to make the effects of this shader more subtle so that the player can actually see in darker areas, and also not get dazzled when the sun is high. In the end, I don't think this is fit for the game.

What do you guys think?

Bully 1 Discussion / Bully: a rant
« on: March 26, 2021, 07:55:05 PM »
So far, we have all looked at bully with good eyes, and for once (and I will probably get crucified :)), I would like to bring the bad side of it.
Let's be honest, the game is a masterpiece: the story (apart from a few incoherences), side activities, the freedom, etc...

BUT:
Many times, I just think "It could be better". There is just so much potential thrown to waste. And it's a pity to see so much unused and/or cut out content that could really make the game a more unique experience. What I read somewhere is that most this content was cut due to limitations of the ps2 at the time,  and we can see even today how unstable the game can get if we push it too far with overloading mods. But... some decisions don't make sense to me. I will take the example of the highly famous beta boys dorm:

It was larger, with two floors and a bathroom (for all we know), seeing how many boys attend bullworth compared to girls, does it make any sense to replace it with the little shed we see in the final game?
If sleep there and wake up in the middle of the night and need to use a toilet, well, you have to go behind the bushes somewhere. Where is the logic here? :hmm:

There is also a school's third floor which, honestly, it doesn't make much of a difference to me except for the VERY CLEAR evidence of it's "have been" existence just by looking at the outside of the school (yeah, I mean the windows).

Also, the removed fireworks store which I believe would not have hurt to keep in the game.

When it come to missions we have the all-quiet-never-speaking Jimmy Hopkins, and, this one really upsets me, the replacement of complete missions with more generic and repetitive ones. It's one of those things that just makes you ask why??? Just why? What is a valid reason for this decision? I remember watching a video by deadpoolxyz where he recreated the beta Halloween and it's just soo much better that the final. Plus, the conversations Jimmy had with other mission related characters during specific missions, I believe would make the story a bit more... complete! Even if is just Jimmy commenting something like "I have to find someplace to hide!".

See, those small changes could have made the game better, and they have been implemented an one point, but instead, they were scraped and we have archives full of unused content

And then, there is the infamous crash on windows 10. Gotta love rockstar for that because it's been years and they haven't fixed this yet, and probably never will because someone has done the dirty work for them.

And please, don't even get me started for the fictional bully 2. We all hope it happens one day. I mean, It has to come someday right?...........................................................................right.....?

And finally, we have modding. It's so hard to mod this game. I recently started working on a way to bring the scripts back to source code, but.... it's gonna take for ever if I keep the same methods I've been using. I mean, I spent a week trying just one script (the consumo minigame) and still the game crashes when trying to launch. Did rockstar really need to strip debugging info from the files? The only advantage is making the files take less space on the drive. But when you have so much unused content, I don't really think there is much of a difference, and besides, if there was debugging info, we would already have sources for every last script a long time ago (probably around 2011).

Rant is over! Maybe it was a little bit longer than I expected it to be :blank:
I'm sorry for making you read all that

Bully Modding / Area code 22
« on: March 22, 2021, 07:46:06 AM »
While going through a library of decompiled scripts released here some time ago I noticed some test scripts will take the player to an area code 22 (which doesn't exist so the game just crashes).

Could it be a beta test area?

I could not find anything in the game files that mentioned this area.

LUA Scripting Help / goto issue
« on: March 08, 2021, 07:02:36 AM »
Is it just me or does the lua compiler we have really hate the goto instruction?

For some reason It asks for a '=' in between the goto and the label:

luac: script.lua:56: `=' expected near `label'

Are we restricted from using goto in our scripts?

Mod Releases / Bully: Difficulty Increase

Bully: Difficulty Increase

https://bully-board.com/index.php?action=downloads;sa=view;down=236

Ever wished Bully was a little harder? This mod has you covered! :)
By simply swapping a few files in the game files, characters will be a little tougher to take down and attack and block more frequently during fights. Prefects and cops have a chance of spawning with paddles or slingshots, and little kids and girls now have a small chance to fighting back if you annoy enough. This mod also adds Bob to free roam with unique stats.
Another alteration is that male characters from all groups in school will spawn in the boys dorm (exept townies).

This was my first ever released mod for this game. Hope you enjoy! 8)

*Known Bugs/Issues*
-Some missions may take longer than normal due to the characters having more health that normal, and as such, some are likely to play the music and at some point, it stops.
-There is a chance that the top health bar may glitch, making it look like the boss you are fighting has a small portion of his total helth.

If you run into any other issues, please let me know by replying to this post.

Introduce Yourself / New member just arrived!
« on: July 16, 2020, 10:49:07 AM »
Hello everyone!
I just joined this community. I have played Bully for quite some time, I can even say I grew with it. I am interested in mods mainly in beta recreations.
I hope we can all be friends and enjoy this piece of art.
