Title: PS2 VS PC Graphics
Post by: DaBOSS54320 on June 13, 2015, 10:17:25 AM
So, obviously the PC version (or well Scholarship Edition in general) came out after the original PS2 version. There was dramatic graphical changes as it runs on an entirely different engine. In some aspects... the PC does look better, but at the same time I personally still really like the PS2's look. It looks a bit more realistic to me in a way, except for the shitty shadows.
I think the PS2 version really thrives in interiors, but the PC version probably takes the win when outside.

Here's some screenshots I took on both PS2 and PC in similar situations so you can compare. Here's some details about the screenshots:
The PC screenshots I took running max settings of the regular patched version of the game. No graphic mods or world.img mods at all.
The PS2 screenshots I took on PCSX2, I was running in software mode. I had 6x native resolution and some anti aliasing.
If you can't tell which is PC and which is PS2, just look for the clock. When I took the screenshots I didn't unlock the clock yet so the PS2 screenshots lack a clock.

I'm used to the PS2 look, so anything else just looks weird.

Pc is definitely better.

Honestly, the PS2 graphics are more relaxing to the eye, and just a bit more dull. But the PC graphics are far more colorful, sharper, and higher contrasted than the PS2. So I'd have to go with PC.

Pc would be easier to play on.

PC.
PS2 has a certain feel to it, but PC is way superior.

I actually like both and I don't think I can compare them that way...I mean, there ain't a better one IMO...But ps2 one had awful shadowing, and PC edition had that stupid dome.

I've got the PS2 and Wii versions.  They both look rather similar (some minor improvements on the Wii version graphically), but the PS2 game has vastly superior audio.  The Wii's dialogue sounds like it was simply recorded via microphone off a TV set.

I prefer the PS2's dark, gloomy, "this place really is crappy" look. It's very fitting. Playing the xbox/pc version for the first time was really strange with how sunny everything looked. Graphics mean nothing to me.

Ps2 is more scarier especially if you go to the asylum at night.

I found them both the same in those terms...
I mean,no need for dark places for being scary...
I think you get more scared on an Asylum filled with lights, rather than on your dark bedroom.

At least I know that all there is is a psycho lunatic when the lights are on in an asylum. In my dark room... it's dark: for all I know there could be a psycho lunatic... with a machete! Then I turn the lights on and see there IS one... but then I turn the mirror away and go to sleep.

Fraidy-Cats ?  The dark is my friend.  If I can't see them, they can't see me either.

Weren't them some unused Asylum Inmates quotes?
Maybe they were played while you were around.

Helps one relax. Can't sleep? Morphine. Gotta wake up early tomorrow? Morphine. Morphine is the answer. :P

And I just realized that the PS2 shoulder cam shows less of jimmy's head than the Scholarship Edition.

I just realized the Wii version has good shadows... never knew that before. It looks awesome. When I found that out the other day I tried to download the Wii version of the game to look in it's files to see if I could replace the game's shaders or something but yeah...... that didn't work, poo.

If only jimmy had a 20 hit combo.

Ah the PS2 version was the life of the party better sounds and lots more activity. The PC version made the game look blocky and unrealistic, Jimmy looks fugly in the PC version and his height and weight positioning is slightly altered.

I hate the hit sounds to the PC version also they sound  strange like they were rushed and put in. The audio is slightly different also sounding more dull and less echoes. In the PS2 version you could hear actual echoes letting you know how large an interior was.

The sky was terrible looking bright and multi colored. I liked the gray cloudy atmosphere when it rained and the bright sunny times when the sun shined. The exteriors and interiors look far more superior in the PS2 version with much more detail and highlights making them look real if you notice the hammer is much more detailed in the PS2 version and in the PC version it is a dull blank silver turd LOL but yeah if anyone wants to do a PC - PS2 Mod I'm all for it I'd pay millions you bastards millions LOL.

I am hoping someone does it soon it would be the best mod of 2015 making all other mods look like shit :D.

You could play it on PCSX2 if you want. Although that does kind of cripple your modding abilities...

I think a mod bringing Wii's shadows to PC would be amazing, or anything that just makes the shadows better. They look great in the boy's dorm but when you step outside it's horrible. Even on "high" settings.

I think all consoles.

Even the Xbox 360 had similar sounds to the Ps2. It sounded more HD, PLUS the hitting sounds were heavier.

I'd add Wii to the poll but most everyone already voted... now that I realize Wii has shadows it takes the crown for me.

Plus sides to the Wii version;
Shadow effects
Activities

Downsides to the Wii Version
Sound quality
"Waggle" controls (which make some minigames easier, but some of the fighting moves near-impossible to pull off with any consistency - making some of the "A little help" missions hard as hell to complete)

PS3 graphics are ok.
