Hey everyone! Welcome to the new Bully-Board theme!
It's been over three years since Bully-Board was saved from the brink of death, and since that time the theme has received minimal changes. However, that changes now! As a present to the entire BB community on my own cake day, I've decided to launch this new theme. The new BB theme is much easier to navigate, uses the entire screen real estate and is much more pleasing to the eye. As with anything, there are bound to be a few bugs that crop up here and there. Let me know if there are any issues or anything in general you want me to change.

Ooh! I like this very much. Also love how the transparency transitions well with the background variants, that's a neat touch.

But somehow this new theme load page slower than the old one
I need only a few second to load a page with the old theme
The old theme eat a lower bandwith to load
But this new one slower, since everytime u click a new thread the background always generated a new one and it take times to load a new background picture
It would be great if the background for example, the download section always the same, and in game forum it has a different background
But it always stay the same for each forum section

Yeah, shame on him for having a different opinion amirite.
... I already said this elsewhere but meh: I don't like it. I think the blue looked better and the background changing on every new page is annoying. Slowing everything down just to load the image is bull too.
But at least for now I have the option to change to the older site. When it does discontinue then I'll have to grow up and get over it, shrug.

No....I did not help with this. This is as much of a surprise to me as it is to everyone else.

Pretty nice work on the theme and personally I like the feel of it way better then the old theme. Though....might I make one suggestion? Just to make it easier on the eyes for some....would you be willing to take the white colored text that appears where the gold areas is and maybe change that to teh dark blue color used in the bully logo? since this would make it easier to see and be somewhat easier on the eyes since that way the theme wont appear as bright to some. Since you could easily just take the current theme and using the admin panel...make a copy of the theme and edit some of the colors and have it as a selectable theme option to give the members here a choice to select either version.
Other then that little detail...I really do like the theme and feel since it is pretty similar to what I was planning on doing when I was wanting to bring up to you a possible bb replacement that not only was a brand new theme design from scratch but also a more stable forum backend with enough features to make everyone drool and promote even more activity from the members. 8)
Anyways....very well done m8 and glad to see some activity from your corner. :biggrin:

Glad to see most of you like it! Made some tweaks today based on the feedback.
- I changed the color of the text in the "gold" sections to the Bully blue color, however it does seem a bit dark. Leaving it for now.
- Re-enabled CloudFlare to see if it helps (used to cause problems but seems much more stable now.)
- Enabled some caching options
- Static "Bully Blue" background color to begin, the background image will fade in once loaded.
As for the slow-loading, part of the problem is most of the avatars are either (or a combination of):
a) Movie length GIFs
b) Loading from a slow external website
c) Ridiculously over-sized
From now on, all external avatars will be downloaded and served up by Bully-Board. All avatars must be 125x125. If they are not, they will be resized for you. If your GIF is larger than 125x125, it will be converted to a static image.

Oh, there are some features I do like (such as the Calender, never had that before, that's really neat). Not having any problems with 'slow-loading' myself, seems about the same as before. The letters in the posts seem 'skinnier' somehow, not as 'fat' as before. Not sure if this is font size or not....I don't know what the default size was before. The darker text screens are easier on the eyes, to be sure, I did like the blue of the 'Classic' site a lot.....Could be because the rich blue invokes a more peaceful feeling (?).

Glad you tried my suggestion on changing the text around. You are right that it does seem a tad bit off. Try this color in the theme stylesheet and see how this looks: #021a32 as this is the actual color code itself that is used in the majority of my bully artwork and I have used that color with .css stylesheets with pretty good results.
Otherwise the theme is well done and gives BB a much more modern feel to it.
Never experienced slow loading ever on BB since I have a very good connection, as far as the avatar settings goes...this is pretty much what I did on every forum I hosted or was admin on since sizes larger then that can cause things to slow down for some users...namely on threads that have 100's of posts..etc.
btw AJ....I hope you did not take offense at my feedback earlier since I was not complaining or anything like that. I just cant help myself when it comes to giving feedback whether it is on art or on forum themes.....since I happen to be a web designer myself (more years then I care to mention) and I just have a critical eye for little details like that....lol. Just ask anyone here who knows me well how critical I am on details and they will tell you a good bit :biggrin:
I will state that I am very glad to see activity from your corner since that shows that you care a lot about keeping BB going and that is one of the marks of a good admin. So keep up the good work m8 and if you ever need or want help on anything regarding any possible work on BB in the future (providing I still have a internet connection by that time and am still around) I am more then willing to offer my services to you as a friend, staff member and coder. I just cant help but try to contribute as much as I can to the forum and community while I still can make a difference. 8)

One thing I did notice missing is the Flag (country of origin) that shows up with the posts.
I believe it to be important, as there are certain cultural differences that sometimes makes understanding what some members are posting difficult. I usually take note of the member's country as I post answers to them, as knowing where they are from is helpful to me in understanding what they might be posting, and helpful in making my response.
It's also a nice showcase that we are a Global Board of Bully.

AJ, you've done a perfect work. The board looks very modern and cool in this new look, but I'd have to go with the old one. Don't take me wrong, I LOVE the new theme, and you're a great designer, but I just don't like changing things and it takes me a long time to get used to new things, so I'll still use the old theme as it's available, although I will use the new theme sometimes to get used to it if anything happens to the old theme. Great work, AJ!

Since AJ is the leader....Chrissy technically would be the second in command. That would make me third in command if you go by staff positions and such with the rest of the staff following in their respective slots...

Today's changes:
- Switched from using transparent PNGs to transparent CSS colors in certain areas with non-transparent fall backs for older browsers
- Anything under IE8 will be redirected to the older theme
- No background images in the Dillo browser due to compatibility issues
- The My Messages button now has the number of unread messages beside it
- Increased cache storage length
Unrelated to the theme:
- Approved/Rejected the extensive mod backlist
- Upped mod size limit to 64MB
Will work on flags as time permits.

Haven't been about much due to work constraints, but I do have to agree that the new mod skin looks good.
However, I'm on a 3G connection so it takes its time loading - and for some reason scrolling down a message list is far slower than I'm used to as well. Perhaps a little optimization might be in order to speed things up & lower bandwidth usage. In the meantime, I'll be on the old skin, but I'll keep an eye in here so I can check for updates.

Have you considered falling back to almost all .css for the majority of the colors rather then using images? since this does speed things up quite a bit since there are several members complaining about speeds. I personally am just fine on speeds so I have no complaints about that. Figured I may as well ask. :biggrin:

Yeah, that was already the plan and I just rolled out some more optimizations in this regard. But as I've stated, most of the speed problems stem from huge user avatars. The new avatar restrictions do not apply to avatars already set until the member's forum profile page is re-saved.

I do have a couple personal requests to ask of you AJ which I would prefer to ask live if you have xfire....pretty sure I also have you on steam since I remember we talked a couple times on steam a long time ago. These requests are mainly for your eyes only due to their nature since they are something I would not want to mention here incase it would "hype up" everyone about something that *might happen* and later turn out not to due to whatever reasons that may be. A couple of these requests I will however state here would greatly help this community out and gain even more members and traffic since due to having done site design and holding admin positions for many years.....I just KNOW what really helps drive a community as well as keep the members new and old quite happy. But since you are the owner....I prefer to just talk only with you regarding this and see what you think and pretty much go from there since in the end...I am just here to help. 8)

Added some more stuff:
- Posts you have yet to submit will now save in your browser's local storage, preventing loss if your browser crashes, power goes out, chipmunk chews fiber optic cables or you accidentally navigate away.
- Images in signatures are now limited to 351 pixels high
- Flags are back!
- When viewing a board, you can now hover over the title of each topic to get 500 word preview pop-up.

You can turn it off via the "Stop Snowing" button at the bottom of the page. It should remember your setting as long as you use the same browser you stopped it from. You also shouldn't get snow while on mobile devices.
