Title: Make Laurent Speak !
Post by: Mercury on September 14, 2010, 01:37:35 PM
I'm writing this thread after Chuck had the idea of it, very clever indeed. We all know that Laurent is french, as well as the Chef - what means that their english isn't perfect. And sometimes, a french word comes into the sentences... But it better make sense. Here you go. If you need any more, just ask it here...

Hello - Bonjour / Salut
Goodbye - Au revoir / Salut
Thanks - Merci
My god - Mon dieu
Bike - Vélo
Car - Voiture
Preps - Bourges
Greasers - Blousons Noirs (What litterally means Dark Jackets)
Turf - Territoire
Work - Travail
Snow - Neige
Fall - Automne (season)

I knew some of these, I learn French in my school.

A question: is "do you want" spelled voulez vous?

Okay, a little lesson there. In French, when you speak to an adult or someone you respect much, you use the "vous". When it's a young person, or someone you know well, you use the "tu". English doesn't make the difference, it's "you" anyway. In the case of Laurent, that is young and in a school, he would better say :

"Veux tu..."

"Voulez vous..." is fully correct. It just has to be used when talking to a prefect, a teacher, or any adult... Get it ?
:)

Hey! I remember most of these words! :)  I took 4 years of French.....but it has been about 4 years since my last French class, so I'm a little rusty.

Use Google Translate
Rockers:Bascule
Bullies:Tyran
Nerds:Nerd
Jocks:Jock
Google Translate maybe too stupid for this

Google translate is very limited in its capabilities.  I'd rather ask Mercury about anything I am unsure about as French is his first language.

Yeah, he's like....The French Expert.

Why bother Google when we have our very own 'French Connection' ?

By the way I'd like to learn some of your language some time.

I warn you, Serbian is a very difficult language to learn. Google Translate won't help you at all.

Indonesian is less difficult, because many Indonesians go online

What's that got to do with language difficulty? Many Serbs hang on the Internet too, but still Serbian is a tough language to learn.

I don't think anything compares to the difficulty of learning Chinese....

Okay, I guess Google Traduction had all wrong on this point ! Here are the answers.

The Bullies : Les Caïds
The Jocks : Les Sportifs
The Nerds : Les Fayots
The Rockers : Les Rockeurs

Here you go !

Nerd doesn't have the exact translation in the game. Here we don't insist on the point that they actually are Nerds, but more on the fact that they're good at school, and teacher's pets.

In Indonesian
The Bullies : Alay
The Nerds : Culun
The Greasers : Montir
The Preps : OKB/Orang Kaya Baru (new rich man)
I don't know Rockers and Jocks because Rocker still pronounced Rocker and no Jock culture in Indonesia, which cause Indonesians suck at sports.

The French for Jock also means Sportsmen... If I understood, the plural is marked by the "i" at the end of the word, right ?

Is your game in english ? If it's in Serbian you can get the translations from there...

Is your game in english ? If it's in Serbian you can get the translations from there...

If the word ends with A, the last letter in plural is usually E, but that's not always the case (sportsman, sportista in Serbian, is both sportiste and sportisti in plural. Both can be used). When the word ends with a consonant, the last letter in plural is usually I. The word "doba" (age, season) is the only singular word in Serbian language, ending with A, which does not have a plural form. A season (winter, summer) is godišnje doba in Serbian (godishñe doba), and the plural is godišnja doba.

Did you know that the word vampire (Serbian spelling is vampir (vampeer)) is originally from Serbia? And it is the only Serbian word used by the whole world.

My game is in English, and I don't think a Serbian translation exists, but I'd love to have one!

Thanks for the lesson ! First brick of a large building ! And I didn't know for the word vampire, that's one surprising thing.

I think RepoMan can speak English well so he don't need much of the Serbian version. I'm an Indonesian, but I can speak English well so I can play Bully in English(Indonesian version exists, but they are poorly translated and it's broke up easily)

But still I'd love Indonesian version with better quality, although it's very hard to find.

Easy - Facile
Hard - Difficile

If anyone needs vocabulary for Laurent watching Nick's fight, you know who you can trust ! ;)
