Did the dialogue at some points make people cringe? Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Bully and I obviously wouldn't be here if I didn't. But the dialogue kind of sucked at some points. "Tough guy"? C'mon Gary, your evil genius can think up better insults than that.
-
I don't think the dialogue ever sucked...especially Gary's lines. The voice acting made him seem so real. :)
-
I wouldn't call Gary a genius but maybe it would've been better if he said funnier stuff but the dialouge in Bully is great.
-
I wonder which/or would looks better
Bully On HD-TV
Bully-On X-Box 360
Bully-On PS3
-
I'm not saying ALL the dialogue sucked. Just at some points.. Guess it was just me then.

Stay on topic.
Anyways, yes, I do agree with you. The dialogue for some of the characters was ridiculous, but that's what made it humorous!
-
Don't forget that the majority of characters are pretty young and childish, don't expect something too elaborate from them, the dialogue has to be credible and fit the characters.
-
Oh I know some of the characters are young. I'm not expecting a bigger vocabulary, just slightly different wording. But even the wording didn't fit the characters at some parts. Like Mandy sarcastically called Beatrice 'friend', that felt out of place to me. Come to think of it, I feel like a lot of people sarcastically called people 'friend' a lot (Gary in particular, but he was a Nazi for halloween so that makes it okay). It could be just a school thing, who knows.
-
sometimes i felt like a 10 year old when hearing some of the dialogue.. but some was quite witty.. i don't like the way jimmy takes control of cliques tho and always emphasises himself being the boss
-
Jimmy sucked as the boss, he held the crown for a few hours.
-
It was more like 2 hours. And another thing that sort of made me go 'Umm..' was that, did anyone else notice that everyone in the game was a complete dumbass? The clique leaders in particular. The whole 'fall' of Jimmy made no sense. I know Gary was behind it and whatnot, but everyone completely overracted at things that aren't related to Jimmy in the least. Don't get me wrong, I'm not trying to defend Jimmy because I could really care less, but I'm baffled at how the gym burning down would be his fault. Or how Johnny getting sent to the asylum after beating people up was also Jimmy's fault. And the rats in the library... None of it makes sense. It would've been more clear if the writers had actually made a connection between Jimmy and the incidents. He wasn't even framed! Gary just made shit happen and everyone's loyalties fell through a plot-hole.
Bully_Nut has a point. I felt like Rockstar was trying to dumb it down for the audience even if some of the other dialogue was hilarious and witty.
-
^ Yeah, I know what you mean...nothing was connected to Jimmy, everyone just took Gary's word for it.
-
I don't think Gary even explained that it was Jimmy's fault o_o;
-
I loved Gary's lines in the game, they made him ten times better.
-
But then again their loyalty was won by fighting them. To get true loyalty you need to get them to respect you. A bit off topic but doesn't Gary really remind you of Hitler? Not just that he dressed like a nazi at Halloween but that he convinced everyone Jimmy was the enemy and that he could save them all etc.
-
You have a point, Gary and Hitler do have alot in commen like Hitler, Gary relied on propaganda and false promises. If Rockstar intended Gary to symbolize Hitler, and im not saying they did, maybe Jimmy was meant to symbolize someone too?
-
Yeah, Gary pretty much is a Nazi. I don't know who Jimmy would symbolize. Was there a country/person that wasn't Hitler who pretty much dominated everyone?
-
I dont think Jimmy dominated people. He knew that Gary was trouble from the start and wasnt roped in (although he kinda was in the early missions)
-
But he beat up EVERYONE and was king for like 4 minutes, so he did dominate somewhat. Even if he was just doing Gary's dirty work (which I almost don't remember how that worked out), he still beat people up and had 100% respect and leadership for a short period of time.
-
Damn i forgot about that. The way Jimmy ended up was kinda like Tony Montana. He started off at the bottom, when nobody liked him, then when he got to the top, the power went to his head, Jimmy forgot about his real friends (Petey) Its just bad cos Tony got shot because of it.
-
Jimmy could symbolize pretty much all dictators, he crushes all his opponents but in the end he got fucked. He also has at least on thing in common with Hitler, when he fell none of his "friends" helped him or stood on his side.
-
I don't think Gary even explained that it was Jimmy's fault o_o;
He probably didn't explain...you'll hear people through the game say "Gary says it's all Jimmy's fault." They just believed that.
-
dumbest qoute, "Im the Daddy..." -Jimmy
that was so dumb he shouldve said "I own you now okay, you work for me!!"
its more badass
-
well gary is quite manipulative.. it would have been easy to sway them againest jimmy, seeing him as quite the protanganist
-

umm when hitler fell his friends had already fallen before him.. unless you refer to Russia who he betrayed
-
No I mean when they caught all the generals they said that they were only following orders and all of that shit. Everyone knew that they liked Hitler and his ways.
-
oh k.. yeah
-
you know what Hitler's favorite qoute was? It was "Wir mussen die Judan ausrotten!", It means exterminate all jews or something I saw it in a vid.
DAMN HITLER!!! Im not a Jew or have any Jewish friends but imagine if it was your religion instead Judaism. I know its off topic but...
-
You don't think I like Hitler right? Cause I don't! I just happen to be very interested in WW2. Okay? No misunderstandings? And one more question, Bully_Nut did you understand what I said? I couldn't tell by your answer.
-
Yeah, there's definitely a difference between liking something and being interested or even impressed by it. Sure Hitler is one of the biggest douche bags in the history of the Earth, but he was damn good at what he did. To have that much charisma and power to pull something like that off, it's pretty amazing.
-
None of it makes sense
Maybe that's why it's a game, an imitation of life.
-
I feel like a lot of people sarcastically called people 'friend' a lot (Gary in particular, but he was a Nazi for halloween so that makes it okay).
yeah...gary is my new idol...that fuckin Nazi bastard...ya gotta love him!
-

Well obviously, you can beat kids with a baseball bat yet somehow remain unexpelled. But that doesn't mean everyone's sense of logic and reasoning has to be thrown to the dogs.
-

yeah man i did.. its k everyones got a opinion..
anyway everyone back on topic
-
Ok I'm back on topic, it would've been funnier if Jimmy was more of a smartass. He was kind of a smartass in the cutscenes but he shoul've been it in the game too. You know what I mean?
-

"I'm the daddy now!" was taken from the movie Scum, according to Wiki.
I can't stand Jimbo's "I'm the Leader!" lectures. I bet that's what he did at his other schools...
The line that I hated the most (or what I can remember) was Jimmy's "You're boring" quote. Okay, he's saying that to Gary, the best character in the game, along with the most intersting. Why can't you think of anything better Jimbo?!
-
Gary must've had some influence for them to automatically believe him like that...
-
It's funny reading over this shit, but they had a point....As much as we love it, some of the dialogue was kind of Retarded.
-
Some of the dialogue was kinda pathetic. Much of the lines from not just Jimmy, but everyone was quite amateur.
-
It was pretty cheesy.... I didn't really notice until somebody told me why they hated the game... I didn't see why he hated it, but he had a point.
-
I don't hate the game. There was just certain features about it I wasn't a fan of. Bully wasn't the only game I felt that way. Nearly every game I disliked something about it, but not the entire game. If we had everything we wanted to a game that would be perfect. And having perfect games is like having perfect people.
-
Shit, we're perfect people. We know what we want.
-
We all know what we want for our games but never get it 'cause we're not involved in the making of the game. Getting it would make us the perfect game, which never happens. As long as this game was made from the mind of someone else than us it won't be perfect. And when I say "us" I mean us as individuals. If I made a game my way there's a high probability someone wouldn't like it, 'cause it wasn't made by them and their standards.
-
I'm sure money has a high role in what people put into a game or not... That is why Activision, Ubisoft, and RockStar make the higher quality games...
-
Every game is an investment for a developer. The marketing and selling of that game is the profits. Developers depend upon it to make any money and determine the success of the game. They need to make more money than what they put into the development of that game in order for it to be considered a success. If some JT supporting asshole gets that game banned they lost what money was put into the game's development. Also, if enough people don't buy the game that would be a loss in money and the game becomes a failure.
-
And if it's a failure, then most likely you want see a sequel. Just look at CoD, last two game have broke sales records two years in a row.
-
The possibility of seeing that sequel is low though. If the first was a failure then it could be risky making another. It would have to be something they're running safe with and know people will like or they'll have to drop that game entirely and focus upon the making of a new one.
-
The first Killzone was a failure, didn't sell well at all. And a lot of people saw it as a failure, but now were on the third one. Bully was enough of a success to warrant a second one, Red Dead Revolver wasn't all the well. And Smuggler's Run had more than one game. That was also a Rockstar game if you didn't know, a lot of people don't know about that series. But the biggest thing is GTA the first and second one wasn't really that good, now look at the series.
-
Its all about the reputation of the developer. If they just failed to a game, they need to either improve it or make a different (and successful one) in order to regain the reputation.
