how to convert object from 3ds max to nif?
-
I wish I can help you but I don't do texture mods.
Hopefully someone will come around to help you.

We do have two people who figured out how to accomplish this.
One of them left the board a long time ago and the second one wants to make a tutorial/guide before anyone else does, so that he/she gets the credit they deserve.
They're rarely online, but once they return (if they do so), I'll request permission to make a fully detailed tutorial on this.

I might knock together a small tutorial on how to do this since I do 3d modeling pretty much full time these days due to currently working on all of the art for the books I am currently writing.
I have a custom plugin for 3ds that I wrote that allows for seamless conversion from .obj to the proper format that .nif requires...and also have another custom plugin that I also wrote that allows for direct loading and editing of a .nif model IN 3ds as well as blender (which i have started to use a little bit...still hate it's interface tho)

Hey guys!
Haven't been on here in awhile but I check in every once in awhile, and I saw this.
If you save the file in 3ds max as a .obj or .3ds, I'm pretty sure there's an option in Nifskope to import obj/3ds. Hope that helps.

Try this plugin: http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/3ds_Max (http://niftools.sourceforge.net/wiki/3ds_Max)
