I know he probably is lying but what if he was a beta tester for the game like you know that thing where they send pre release games to you by mail and you play em for like $100 per game you test i remember seeing a website about that before.

A beta would have been able to actually tell you something about the game that you'd learn from somewhere other than the back of the case.
