Title: PC Port - lagging
Post by: donnie on January 16, 2010, 04:23:03 PM
Hey y'all

So, today I bought Bully Scholarship Edition for PC. My PC is rather new (I play most games on highest graphics settings without problems),
but Bully however, lags ridiculously much even on 1024x768 and all other options turned off.
It feels like some kind of compatibility issue, and I was wondering; has anyone else experienced the same ?

My techspecs:
XP Pro 32bit (sp3)
2,13GHz (dual)
3GB RAM
Geforce 7900GS
Sound Blaster Live 24-bit

I've never had that problem before. I don't usually play games on my PC anymore because I got a virus on my first one because of that.

I can't help you there, Donnie....I haven't played any games on my PC since the old TRS-80 days....
Maybe someone will come by here with more expertise than I have with this....Good luck.

I would try to take it back to the store and get a PS2 instead.

How much stuff do you have on your computer?  Usually if a program lags it's because of a lack of RAM although 3 GB is a hefty amount.  I'm no computer genius, but I've had similar problems with other PC games and I decided to bone up on how it works a little bit to help myself.

Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Cleaner
Start > All programs > Accessories > System Tools > Disk Defragmenter

Both programs will free a little more space on your computer ! (I'm SURE I've been spelling this names wrong).

Okay, thanks everyone for your replies. I'll see what I can do from your advices. And, Tbone, I've already played Bully for PS2. I just wanted to play Scholarship Edition as well =P

I got it working now, at least playable ;)

I don't know what I did, but it might've been an audio driver issue. I play with my onboard soundcard now.
I'm actually surprised how much Scholarship differs from the original. I'm only at the beginning of chapter 3, though. I want Zoe to be introduced earlier :/

That's happened to me before when something doesn't work and then I do the exact same thing later and it work.

The computer I have games on is complete crap.  It's a 2003 Windows XP and if I remember correctly it has only 1GB of RAM at best.  Whenever I have it running it sounds like a damn plane taking off.  I usually try my best to avoid turning it on.

That's probably one of the first ones ever made. Mine is brand new. My old one is from 05 I think.

I remember having looking in dumpsters to find old computers... And steal their RAM bars ! The mod-computer I had then was sooo fast !

That's probably not the best idea Mercury.  When you take computers apart you can release chemicals or something, I heard that on the news once.  You could end up with cancer and what not.

Duh, really ? Fuck, I didn't have any problems for now, it was just a big toy-box with cards inside... Anyway, thanks for the advice, I'll take note of that.

I heard things like that only it was about cellphones causing brain cancer.

There are certain parts of a computer than are only deadly if they are not intact.  It's just like when the shuttle Columbia broke up and people in Texas were told not to touch anything that fell from the sky.

Just heard on the news that cell phones are now GOOD for Alzheimer's......

Guess that is, if the tumors don’t get to you first.....

I haven't really cared about the cellphone thing.

The thing is, there are always these "studies" that say "this is good for you" and then a week later they change it to "No wait, that is actually bad for you".  You honestly can't trust these people as far as you can throw them.

I guess it's like radioactives... It you're just exposed a little time, it can be good for you...

Anyway, scientists are dumbasses : France bought 94 billions vaccinations against A flu, and now we have sooo much to sell to others countries...

Sell it to the U.S.  all the scientists here are dragging their asses and can't make enough in time for the over 300 million people in this country.  I already got a swine flu vaccine though. ;)

I never get those stupid shots...The last time the Swine Flu hit the US (1976), it was the same story....Media and government doom & gloom scare tactics, and millions of inoculations that made people sick....I watched as half my workplace people ran out and got the shots, only have to take sick time off because the shots made them sick...

Thanks but no thanks......

I wasn't originally going to get one because I feel that whatever will be will be.  If I got the "diease", well, that's just nature's way.  In December my doctor notified me that I could get one for free, so I figured what the hell, it won't hurt to get one.  Afterall, he had me at "free".

So....If you could get something like, say...Free Botox Injections, you would do that because it was "Free" ?

Oh hell no.  I just figured that the vaccine wouldn't be a bad thing to have, but I wasn't prepared to go out of my way to get it.  When I found it was free (actually it was already paid for with taxes) I thought "Might as well"

It's a waste of money to get all these vaccines because the Swine flu isn't as bad as they thought it would be. The president's already spent a trillion dollars we don't even have.

Same as the 1976 swine flu....History repeats itself....

I just loved the way they tried to change the name early on to make it sound scarier....

We spend money we don't really have... Great.

I think France is a little more fiscally responsible than the U.S.

Definately. The presidents are awful with handling our money.
