Okay... They're called cherry-tops in some states because of the only red light on the car (there isn't any blue light).

 The term "Cherry tops" is really old fashioned.  Police cars in modern times in the U.S. have blue lights, raely do they have red lights.  Sometimes its a combination of blue and white.

 Probably so that they are not confused with a fire truck.  When I see a red light I think of Fire Services, not Police.
