Bully 1 Discussion / Re: Bully: Undead Nightmare?
« on: September 27, 2020, 12:06:30 PM »
Jump scares or QTEs are these things that get to be more annoying than anything else. Fear usually comes from knowing that whatever you face is a threat. If not a threat, then why fear it?

It reminds me of the old days on PC when people would try to prank you with "screamers". Just a freaky image with super loud audio. Gets annoying.

Especially during the ps2-ps3 generations. Zombies were this HUGE wagon every developer had the urge of hopping on. It drained and killed the real value in horror.

Zombies only work well when you build the entire story/game around that concept. To just interject zombies into a game that has nothing to do with them at all makes it feel out of place.

33
This is even harder when you try to use any authority figure since the only thing they do is bust/arrest you. They have no tie at all to your controls and need to be custom built.

34
I'm honestly not sure since you mention pcsx2. That only takes a console game and emulates the image made from a disc. You're basically emulating a ps2 version of Bully.

While not super easy, modding the pc version is usually a bit easier since on pc you at least have direct access to the files installed. Not to mention that the pc version has more content than the console version.

The huge majority of mods on this site were made from pc since modding console or mobile is totally different.

Forum Questions/Help / Re: How to navigate the forum
« on: September 19, 2020, 09:01:58 AM »
The section/sub-section names and descriptions are there to help navigate and determine what content goes where. A way to sort and categorize. This site goes back over a decade, so things had to be organized.

As for mods, this site started on PC and mainly followed that route. Not sure if you will find android. You can certainly dig around the "Mod Releases" or "Mod Showroom" sections but no guarantee you will find what you want.

It's questionable, but a HUGE amount of other titles were on the zombie train as well. It was hard to make anything with zombies and attract attention, even now.

Only true horror games can gain an audience with that type of content now because it was drained of any value.

Yo.  8) Nice seeing more people arrive. We all have been asking that question about Bully 2 for probably over a decade now.  :cc_detective: Whether we see anything come out is up in the air really.

Mod Releases / Re: Not another selector

Nobody has posted in this topic since 2017. I wouldn't expect a response from anyone.

If you want to fix whatever problem you have though, be sure to have backed up the original script files. If mod scripts malfunction you need to put back the default game scripts to prevent permanent damage.

Nice having people join Bully-Board.

Beta creations have been done in the past but are not the most simple to do since it is a form of removed content in the game data. Due to the small world in Bully the existing content usually has to be overwritten with the beta.

Modding Questions/Help / Re: Unable to save game files.
« on: June 28, 2020, 08:22:58 PM »
I'm not sure what could be causing this. There is the small possibility your save data was damaged. Be sure to run as admin if you aren't.
----------------------------------------
==> Find out where the game is saving:

I don't use the steam version but save data should be in your "documents" folder on windows. Steam usually makes a "My Games" folder in the documents folder.

If It's not there, then see if Bully made its own folder. The game also can make its own save data folder in the "documents" section with the game title for the folder name.
----------------------------------------
==> Try starting new save files:

First thing I would do is wipe or at least move the save data files once you found them. If a totally fresh game allows you to save, then the save data was damaged. If saving still fails, then you will at least know it's something else.
----------------------------------------
==> If all fails, try a reinstall or steam error check:

You could try a total reinstall or have steam run a check on the installation for errors.
----------------------------------------

INFO:

~ If you use Windows 10, it has high security and will require you to run as admin.

~ Windows 10 has a tendency to crash with bully due to bugs. Patches had to be made so it would function. Bully was made roughly around the time of windows xp.

.IMG Archive questions/help / Re: What is the "ide.img" file?
« on: June 19, 2020, 10:32:21 AM »
There is multiple .img files you will find in different folders of the install directory. Every .img file is an archive of files in the compiled form of lua code. Some of what you mentioned are used to write raw .lua code.

I never opened the ide.img file. "AnimationGroup" is pretty vast though. It gives each character, faction, and even vehicle their own unique movement. "Authority" is an animation that is associated with any prefect, officer, or adult figure who can "arrest" you.

Much of the beta content was found. It was never removed from the game. There was even mods made to try and add in some of that content.

The current beta of version 4 is pretty much a complete in-game trainer at this point, but I guess much more can be added.
For example, the location spawner is slightly limited, some areas such as the chemical plant, etc are not available.

Locations such as this would require the script(s) that load and render the inside of the chemical plant. Without the loading and rendering process the game might crash or you may just end up in an empty void. Loading screens were used for performance in old consoles where rendering too much could lag the machine.

Another interesting feature that I'm wondering about is the ability to unlock doors that are usually not available in other mods, such as those at the boy's dorm, and the locked stairs at the harrington house, among other things, including hidden locations inside stores and whatnot.

Some locations such as the boy's dorm do not have anything that really renders or "exists" behind the locked doors. You would need to manually build rooms into the 3d space of the map and use lua coding to make it function. Not easily done.

Even cooler would be some sort of levitation effect that lets the player fly around, which would enable access to rooftops of some buildings that are otherwise accessible.
And I'm guessing there's a lot more stuff that one can think of,

DaBOSS made a flying mod. This may be what you're looking for. https://bully-board.com/index.php?topic=24069.0

Is there any plan for somebody to continue working on this? If not as a super trainer style of thing, then at least exploring more of what can be accessed in-game.

This mod would require DaBOSS since nobody else really has knowledge in how it was coded. DaBOSS has not been around however.

Modding Questions/Help / Re: Edit subtitles

While I have little knowledge in modding, I know about compatibility issues and file formats. You may know some of this stuff, but this is a basic list of things.
  • .bin is a format similar to .iso files. It is an image file format. It can be hard to access directly. You would need to extract the data from the bin file and convert it into a format you can mod. Even the audio of Bully is all in .bin files.
  • That issue you have with notepad++ seeing the "NUL" or any other character inside of black boxes it's an easy way to spot that the app you're using is not able to read the data, which also means it can't properly save the modifications you make.

By editing and saving a file which appears that way, you can corrupt it and the game then can't read it, which would be why nothing is appearing.
  • Modifications you make will also not take effect unless you first recompile what you modded:
img file --> bin file --> data --> modded data --> bin file --> img file.
  • ALL of the files inside of any img file must have the EXACT same name as when you extracted it, including capital/lower letters and numbers. Custom file names are not found by the game. You might be able to do that in lua but it would be difficult.
  • If any modding fails and you didn't backup the original files, you will need to reinstall the entire game again. This is a good habit to have in modding and beyond. Even the best plans have a chance to fail. Having backups will save you time and pain.

What I don't know is the raw format of the data in the bin files, so even being able to extract, edit, and repack a bin file doesn't guarantee it to work.

Hex editing tools and nifskope were the main tools in the early days. There's very little tools for bin other than imaging software. You may have a better chance in using a hex editor or a tool to extract image files unless there's a tool I'm not aware of.

Requests Archive / Re: guns
« on: May 31, 2020, 09:30:00 PM »
I like the idea of expanding the arsenal, but it should fit the theme of Bully.

For "guns", the bb gun and spud gun were as far as things really made sense to have. And later you couldn't even have the bb gun without mods.

But to have what would be seen as a lethal weapon is pointless since Bully was never coded to kill anyone in the first place. They only get knocked out and fall over rolling around.

I thought it would be nice to have a paintball gun though.
