There are a lot of series around that have been great. But some have seemed to take a wrong step and went in another direction. For instance Silent Hill, I have loved 1-3, they are amazing. They got a great atmosphere and a great story especially the 2nd one. I have slightly been disappointed with the series since SH4. It just feels like the world, atmosphere, and story have taken a backseat. And gameplay has been the main focus, and they still can't get that right.
Do you feel this way about any series?
-
Some series have done this. The beginning was good and went dow hill as sequels came out. One I feel did this was Syphon Filter. When they made Syphon Filter Dark Mirror, I was disappointed. Previous games were better.
I think RE is starting to show some signs of this as well. RE4 and RE5 had no horror and has become more action (Don't take this wrong. I'm not a RE hater).
I kinda feel the story of MGS4 wasn't too good. I just say that due to how Snake was killed off. I still hold some hope for this series though, so I'll wait and see what Konami brings to the table.
-
Actually, I liked SH 4 -The Room the best in the series. Plus, SH Origins wasn't bad either.
-
I never played Silent Hill so I wouldn't know. I'm kinda blank right now for other series that went down hill. I'm trying to pull one.
-
I like all the SH games, but just feel they ain't as good. Chuck your probably the first person I've heard to say the 4th is the best one. As for RE I never thought the series was that scary, it's all been jump scares for me.
-
RE1 through RE3 had the horror. Once RE4 and RE5 came around they lost their horror.
-
Eh....I just liked the concept....Guy in his apartment, can't get out, don't know why, Strange chick next apartment over, weird hole in his bathroom, chains on the door....
And still got to play in the 'Alter World'.
-
I first played RE1-3 when I was young they was defiantly scary. Now when I got back and play them they are nothing but jump scares for me. I can really say the same about SH though, it still feels the same each time I play it. When comparing them both SH got the scariness right and what RE should of somewhat been like.
I'm in no way trying to put RE down, because I've always liked it better than SH.
-
I've always been a fan of RE. Another game that had great horror was RE Outbreak. RE 4 and RE5 lost that horror though. It was way too action/adventure.
-
I miss the 'Real' Zombies in RE. Those dudes were funny !!!
-
I liked them. They played a major role in the game. They were so slow you could run around them, but they still got you every once in a while.
-
I mean, they were fucking hilarious !!! I just loved blowing off their heads with the shotgun !!!
-
I didn't much care for them, I liked it more when I ran into a licker or something. That's usually when I'd get worried. If they'd bring back more monsters I'd like that. They also need to bring back a more scarier foe than what Nemesis was. I've never been freaked out by nothing more than Pyramid Head.
-
Nemesis was fuckin' awesome. I would really want to see some more of him. Maybe they should make Nemesis a big brother, lol.
Another series than went down hill is Hitman. I didn't really Like Hitman Contracts. Hitman Blood Money was better.
-
Final Fantasy has went down hill has been Final Fantasy. After X-2 it hasn't been as good. But 13 was pretty good, but still felt like it was lacking.
-
I was never really into Final Fantasy. Its not my type of genre.
-
Most any RPG has got an excellent story, that's why I play them.
-
Final Fantasy doesn't have enough action for me.
-
I was never really into Final Fantasy. Its not my type of genre.
I never did either, for the same reason.
-
I lost interest in Final Fantsy really fast....
-
RPG's aren't usually meant for action it's pure story and that's why I love them.
-
All games need to have a good story. Whst's a game without a story? I just like where I'm a bit more active in the game.
-
I agree with that, but a lot of games now days ain't got much story. Graphics are the big thing now amongst a lot of people. I get sick of hearing about this game is better than that one only because of graphics.
-
Graphics are only a portion of what improves a game.
-
Without a story, we might as well go back to the old arcade games of the 70's and 80's....Is that really what the brain-dead public wants ?
-
I guess some people are fans of Pacman and Space Invaders.
-
Take Mario for an example. The story from the first game has been the same. Bowser kidnaps Princess Peach. Mario now needs to save her. I've played everyone and it's the same, it's one of the top selling series. I know it's fun to play, but damn the story line is boring as hell.
-
Games can look good in graphics, but the story is what keeps players wanting more of that game. Its about the quality of the story that determines a games future in the market.
I didn't become a MGS freak due to the graphics it had. Hell, MGS1 had some quite shitty graphics to start with. It was the story that kept me attached to the series.
-
In today's market, if it isn't an RPG, Stealth, Hack and Slash and others it's mp that's the selling point. GTA has always had a great story, but they now put in mp. The same goes for the Uncharted series it has it, even some RPG's are getting it.
-
That's why I never got into racing games either......So fucking boring.
-
Racing games kinda suck. I might consider Midnight Club: LA.
-
I like street racing games, it's a challenge with other cars on the street. Sometimes though I just like going through a game for a challenge.
-
Street racing games are fun. Its much more of a challenge than driving in a circle.
-
All of the Midnight Club games are hard. They have this rubber band effect in them. This allows for your AI opponents to stay close to you at all times. If they wreak they catch up quick, this also brings out the one big con. If you wreak it's hard for you to catch up, usually causing you to restart because you want win.
-
A very loooong time ago, played a racing game where you raced from city to city....:ike a cross country sort of thing. Had cops that could pull you over, give you a ticket, but if you could top 130 mph on a stretch of say, 5 miles or so, you could loose them.
There was other stuff in it too. Don't remember the name of it, the game was a friend's, and played at his place. That was more to my liking, I recall.....There were goals, and levels....Eventually, you got to race across the country.
-
One game I actually like was "Mark of Kri". Anyone play that?
-
That game sounds really familiar Chuck. Can't really think of anything though.
-
It wasn't racing. It was a fighting game based during medievil times. Pretty cool.
-
I don't think I've ever heard of that one. I've never been a big fan on fighting games. Although I've always been a big fan of Street Fighter.
-
The Mark of Kri....

-
It looks familiar now from the screenshot, but I still don't think I've played it.
-
This game came out a LONG time ago. I still have it. I didn't see much of a successful series built from it though. Almost every person I met didn't know about it, so you not being able to remember it isn't a surprise.
-
Never heard of him.
-
When I bought this game it was $30, I can't imagine how cheap it would be now. I bought this game at least 7 years ago.
-
I looked it up it came out in 2002. It has a lot of good reviews though, it even received game of the month.
-
It was a really fun action/adventure game. It also had some stealth in it.
-
It looks more like some sort of cartoon I've seen before.
-
It does look a bit cartoon-like. It was fun though. It had its challenges.
(I'm gonna get "Army of two" and "Army of Two: 40th Day" for my next games. They've gone pretty cheap.)
-
Do that, and give me a review on it. I looked, but didn't buy when it came out.
-
A review on what? The Army of two series? I got the first one for 360, it's actually quite fun. Only down side is it's a little on the short side.
-
By now they're pretty cheap new. I want them. I never got them when they came out. The cut scenes to that game are amazing. I'm starting to regret not getting them, but with the prices on them now they shouldn't be more than $12-$20.
I have a gamestop around here I trust. They actually keep the new games sealed in the packages, whick I like. A few I went to at the mall would break the seal and remove the discs from their cases, then store them in a backroom. Well how the fuck is that "new"?!
I ended up paying $60 for a "new" disc that had fuckin' scratches on it!
-
What, and like put it in their own cases like some of those movie rental places do ?
-
Yeah, they're opening the original cases and storing the games in their own paper cases until someone buys them. That's not new.
-
That's illegal them bastards.
-
They're doing it to "prevent shoplifting". It ends up fucking people over in the end though. You pay $60 for a game that's not really new. They SAY its new.
-
See where I got they have got the cases on display. That's normal, most of those are of used games any way that someone has traded in. If I buy a new game I hand them the case they go behind the counter open up a shelf and pull out the new game. It's wrapped and all, I've been to quite a few Gamestop's. Some do it that way, then others do it the fucked up way.
I really don't see how they can get away with that.
-
The one I go to puts empty cases on display and pull out wrapped games from behind the counter. Others open the actual game cases.
-
Well, look here. They OWN the games until you buy it from them. They have every legal right to do with them what they want while they own them.
Is it ethical ? Not really. A crime ? No.
-
You can't say that an opened case is new though. Only when the factory seal is on the case can a game really be new.
-
I don't think it's right, and I don't think they should be able to do it. I'd never buy anything new that's been used, if it's open and being shown as new the price should be lower.
-
Its a scam in certain ways. They make extra $$$$ off of a disc that isn't in the condition they claim.
-
^ They tried doing that to me once when I bought Episodes from Liberty City. I wanted a new copy, but he pulled it out and it was already used. When he handed it to me I opened it and looked at it, it had scratches all over it. I ask him if he was a fucking moron and told him I wanted my money back. I keep the receipt and call in and complained on his ass.
-
Before you know it they're gonna be using their own plastic wrap and taping it on.
-
Stores have done that before, shit is crazy.
-
People will do anything to make a profit.
-
Money is pure evil, but you can't stay away from it because you need it.
-
Money makes the world go 'round.
-
It may, but it's still evil. What people do for it is simply crazy. A few weeks ago someone robbed a store here in Cincinnati killed the clerk. Only got away with 2 bucks.
-
Not too long ago a old couple was murdered and mugged just to lose the 10 or 20 bucks they were carrying. What people do and the reasons why is twisted. That's if they have reasons....
-
Most of the time they ain't got a reason though. Just trying to get easy money simple as that. But then they end up killing them.
-
They trying to get simple money 'cause they're too lazy to work for a check. They would rather kill someone for $20 than work a week and get a decent check.
-
I could never kill someone, especially for that reason. I actually don't mind working for money, it's the reason I quite school. Although I regret quitting school, I've been making money since I was 16 working my ass off.
-
For the ones who quit school its even harder for them to get a job than for those who actually graduated. Most jobs today require college.
-
I know, I wish I wouldn't of quit now. I'm going to get my GED though, and I do plan on going to collage. I've finally stopped chasing dumb dreams, and realized what I love was under my nose the whole time.
-
I'm not really sure what I want. Sure game designing seems great but I haven't found what I truly want.
-
After being out of school for such a long time, I defiantly have had a long time to think. I really want to work on something that I can get lost in and just create something amazing.
-
I'm more of a PC person. I want to stick with that road.
-
But doing what with a PC? Building them, making a game revolves around a PC anyway.
-
That's why I thought of it. It sticks to the PC. I'm not sure of it though. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm gonna do.
