Bully 1 Discussion / Bully's Offical Website Archived
« on: March 13, 2021, 06:57:17 PM »
Back in 2011, Rockstar was feverishly updating old game websites to remove certain trailers - presumably because they lost rights to certain elements. At the time, that prompted me to try to archive as much of Rockstar's websites as I could with the plans to create a "Rockstar Games museum". Eventually as my enthusiasm for Rockstar waned due to the constant pushing of Shark CardsTM, this project never went anywhere.

Last year after Flash was killed by Adobe, Rockstar unceremoniously removed all of their game websites that used Flash. Luckily, I still had a large number of the website content I had archived long ago.

Introducing an early version of the RockstarMuseum, with a mostly complete copy of the Bully official website.

The website mostly works in modern browsers without Flash thanks to the Ruffle emulator. Compatibility with later versions of Flash sites is still in development, so you will notice bugs with the Bully site until these are fixed. Any Flash videos will not play due to a combination of Ruffle not supporting FLV files and the way Rockstar hosted these files.

As for the other game websites in the Museum, I'm still working on fixing up broken links and missing files when I have free time.

News & Updates / Bully-Board Was Compromised
« on: March 13, 2021, 06:33:02 PM »
All,

Earlier this week Bully-Board was compromised using an inactive administrator's account. Unfortunately, logs indicate the threat actor used Simple Machine Forum's backup utility to ex-filtrate a backup of the database. This backup would have contained hashed passwords, Email addresses, posts, private messages, IP addresses, and anything else you may have shared with the forum. If you re-used your password anywhere, I'd highly advise you to change them immediately.

After discovering the compromise, I took the forum offline for a few days to dig through files and the database to check for any further indications of compromise. While things looked clean, in abundance of caution I've spent a few hours rebuilding the site from the latest clean version of Simple Machines Forum. Past administrators who have not logged in for a few years have had their permissions revoked.

I've also scrambled password hashes - meaning you will need to use the password reset if this is your first time visiting since the compromise.

I apologize for the inconvenience this caused.

Thanks,
AJ

News & Updates / Regarding Downtime
« on: May 26, 2016, 12:48:47 AM »
A few days ago our provider noticed some strange outbound traffic coming from our box and shut it down so that I can review. They believe the traffic was part of a outbound denial of service attack.

I'm still analyzing but at first glance I do not see anything that would indicate a compromise. Regardless, I still recommend that you change your password if you used it anywhere else - just to error on the side of caution. I will be forcing a password reset for everyone soon.

You may notice some stuff missing and the site might seem a little slow. In light of a potential compromise, I've decided to wipe the VPS we were running on and start from scratch with updated versions. It will take a few days for me to properly configure everything -- so in the mean time I've set us up on a temporary host. I've also gone back to a clean install of the SMF forum software and applied only a handful of forum mods. Let me know if you run into any issues.

I apologize for the delay in getting things back up. It's hard to juggle getting the site back up and taking care of a 4 month old.  :P

I looked into this a few weeks ago actually. There is a mod for the forum that will do this, however it looked like it had a number of issues that still needed to be sorted out. I'll keep an eye on it.

Forum Questions/Help / Re: 502's Are Back

It feels faster, but I did have a 502 a minute ago.
I was doing some work around the same time -- that was likely when I restarted part of the server.

A Russian search engine and Bing were doing a lot of crawling on the website at the same time. I've made a couple of changes that will hopefully make them slow down.

Bully 2 Discussion / Re: Bully 2 Cancelled?
« on: June 10, 2014, 11:21:29 PM »
Too little details to say that this was Bully 2 or even a canned project. Could have just been a DLC pack for GTAV or another project. I find it extremely suspicious that they were in the casting stages and poof it's been canceled, especially when he would have likely been just recording a pedestrian voice which are usually recorded much later in development. My money is more on a project that has been delayed or they just didn't need/want him anymore and he took it as it was canceled.

Find it interesting that he's supposedly been excluded from the credits of Rockstar's games. If you watch the credits, there's a huge wall of voice actors for pedestrians.

Agent: This game looks really good and has been in development for a while, this might of been canceled due to the fact that it is an old game and releasing a game with graphics that old in this time period might be a bit... bad.
Agent has been in production/tossed around in some form since 2003. To my knowledge, aside from a couple of ports a long time ago, Rockstar has never canceled a game after announcing it. It's obvious that Agent is a game that Sam and Dan really want made, otherwise they would have canceled it before announcement just like "We are the Mods" was.

Has Rockstar totally tanked on any idea of a Manhunt 3 ?

I would think so, after all this time.  Shame.
It really is hard to tell with Rockstar and Manhunt. I would have never guessed Manhunt 2 would make it to PC years after initial release, let alone the AO SKU being the only version available of it. The game was using the GTA Stories graphics engine which had never been ran on a PC before so it wasn't like it was as trivial as switching build paths. Yet it seems someone high up at Rockstar liked it enough to approve a PC port. Interestingly enough, even though they went through the trouble of porting it, they never once mentioned it via official channels -- only silently updating the MH2 official site. For the first few years after release it was only available on Direct2Drive. Once GameFly purchased D2D, they quickly removed all AO titles without warning publishers. For about half a year you couldn't even purchase MH2 as it literally wasn't being sold anywhere -- unless you lived in Russia, 1C briefly published the only hard copies sold of the game. There were wild rumors going around Rockstar was working on a Manhunt title that used Kinect/PSMove, not sure if there was really any truth to that.

So yeah, Manhunt is treated very oddly compared to other titles for some reason.

GTA V and Max Payne 3 are done, if Rockstar starts working on a new Red Dead game I'm gonna punch Dan Houser in the dick.
Almost guarantee you work has began on the next Red Dead game, though keep in mind that Rockstar has several studios and has the capacity to work on a number of games at the same time. I do wonder if we'll see some kind of mobile port of Bully. With GTASA done and Bully using essentially the same engine (RenderWare) with a few modifications, it makes sense both financially and technically and can help re-energize the brand in preparation for a new Bully game. The only real hurdle would be figuring out whether or not to bring over Scholarship Edition content as that is in a totally different graphics engine. I'm pretty sure that besides Manhunt 1 (which Rockstar doesn't seem to care much about anymore), Bully is the only RenderWare Rockstar game that has yet to receive mobile treatment.
