When there's no seismic activity something else always compensates for it.

Two other places that people never expect seismic activity are Charleston, SC and New Madrid, KY.

We have gotten very minor ones here from the New Madrid Fault over the years.  The local media hype it up like it's a really big deal.

The New Madrid Fault is capable of producing large earthquakes. There was one in the early 1800s that actually changed the course of the Mississippi River.

True That, and we hear about that incessantly whenever they go apeshit about any little tremor here.  I mean, they go out and interview all these people and get them to say how "scary" it all was, when the damn thing could hardly be felt at all.

It's like comparing a little finger cut to having your arm chopped off, you know ?  I guess I shouldn't expect any better out of the HICK MENTALITY out here, but it sure does get annoying at times.

I'll tell what's scary: a tornado. Nothing gets your attention like one of those.

Suprisingly, I've never seen one here.  I did see one on the East coast several years ago, though, 20 miles from the Ocean.

We had a tornado touch down here about a year ago. I had never experienced a tornado in my life prior to that.

We have had plenty of them here. The central part of Mass. is often called the "tornado alley of New England". We obviously don't get as many as Kansas or Oklahoma, but we have our fair share.

The experience is really something. No sounds other than those coming from the storm. No birds, no animals, eerily silent. Nothing will send chills down your spine more than the appearance of black clouds on the horizon followed by the sound of an air raid siren.

Well, what else would I call it? My town used to have a huge one on top of the fire station, but it was taken down years ago. Now whenever there is a tornado or something, we get an alert tone over the TV. Hearing that makes you just about shit your pants too.

Once a week we get that emergency alert test on the TV. I'm sure you fellas have that too.
