Im new to forums altogether and i got a warnig for bumping recently
Can some explain the concept of 'bumping' please?
-
"Bumping" is when you take a topic that is very old and post in it.
If you post in a topic where the most recent post was from 2012 and it's 2019 now, you're just bumping the topic that was already dead. This can sometimes be known as necro-posting. Basically taking a dead topic and posting in it.
In very rare circumstances does doing this benefit the community and start a real talk. It just benefits the user who posted and gives them a post count boost.

How old does the topic have to be to consider it 'bumping'?
-
If the topic hasn't been posted in for a long time the box you type in will have a red colored message above the type box it saying:
"Warning: this topic has not been posted in for at least 120 days.
Unless you're sure you want to reply, please consider starting a new topic."
It gives this message because unless you can get a real conversation going, there's no point posting in something 120 days old or possibly years old.
This rule exists because people started to spam old topics just to increase their amount of posts.

I hope I don't. I was gone for quite awhile and catching up on what's going on.
